Subject Information |
File relates to initially unsuccessful claim by subject's father, Patrick Magee; gratuity subsequently granted on appeal. Subject, veteran of Easter Week, 1916, subsequently interned, and member of the Dublin Brigade's Active Service Unit (ASU) and was killed by British forces (per death certificate) in January 1921 during an engagement at Clonturk Park, Drumcondra, Dublin. Subject's mother unsuccessfully entered renewed claims under 1932 and 1937 Acts, but file also indicates that she successfully applied in 1941 for subject's posthumous 1916 Medal. It records that in 1943 subject's brother, Francis Magee (National Army veteran), successfully claimed his posthumous 1917-1921 Service Medal with Bar. Subject's next of kin applied unsuccessfully in 1966 for 1916 Jubilee Commemorative Medal, awarded solely to surviving participants in Easter Rising.
