Subject Information File relates to Patrick Walsh’s application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of his son Patrick Walsh who was shot and killed by British forces at Gortaglanna, County Kerry on 12 May 1921. Includes application from Ellen Walsh, sister of deceased, for an award. Application initially rejected due to the award by the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee. Also includes unsuccessful application from John Walsh, brother of deceased, for an award. Patrick Dalton and Jeremiah Lyons killed in the same incident. Noted that one other prisoner, Con Dee (cousin), escaped. It is claimed in file that the four were captured and beaten by British forces under the command of District inspector Bygott and Head Constable Smith. The four were then placed in two military lorries and driven to Terry's Fort at Gortaglanna where they were shot. Reference made to an application for compensation under the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee. The sum of £250 was awarded to Patrick Walsh (father). The Military Service Registration Board recognised service within the meaning of Part II of the Army Pensions Act, 1932 between 1916 and 1921.
