Subject Information File relates to Margaret Hayes' receipt of a dependents' allowance from 1954 under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of her son IRA member Thomas Martin Hayes. File also relates to Thomas Hayes Senior's unsuccessful application in 1933 in respect of his son Thomas Martin Hayes. Thomas Martin Hayes was killed in action against National Army forces on 17 September 1922 at Boher, County Tipperary during the Civil War. According to material on file four (4) members of the National Army were killed and seven (7) wounded in this same incident. Thomas Martin Hayes had served with Na Fianna Éireann and the IRA from 1918 onwards and during the War of Independence, Truce period and Civil War. File includes: original handwritten material submitted and signed by Thomas Hayes Senior and Margaret Hayes in support of their respective applications; original signed handwritten report dated 23 July 1935 from investigating officer, Customs and Excise, Nenagh, County Tipperary regarding the circumstances and means of the Hayes family and the degree of dependency of Thomas Hayes Senior on his son at the time of the latter's death; representations on behalf of Thomas Hayes Senior from Denis O'Neill and Martin Ryan TD; representations on behalf of Margaret Hayes from D. Morrissey; material relating to the settlement and closure of Margaret Hayes' dependents' allowance following her death on 23 March 1966; and signed handwritten statements regarding subject's service and death from Patrick MacDonnell, Sean Gaynor, James J. Murray and Próinsías Mac Cráith (Frank McGrath).
