Subject Information File relates to Matthew Riordan’s application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of his brother John Riordan who was wounded on 10 December 1920 and died on 14 December 1920. Noted in file that Riordan was among a party of men which attempted to ambush a British military vehicle at Cross of the Tree, Garryspilane, County Limerick. While the party was in retreat Riordan was shot. Riordan died in Kilmallock Hospital. Also includes an unsuccessful application from Daniel Riordan, brother of deceased, for an award. John Riordan had previously served in the British Army at the rank of Sergeant during the First World War and was demobilised in 1919. Mentioned in file that Riordan was wounded in the First World War. Matthew Riordan states that following Riordan's death their home was raided by British forces who removed deceased's DSO (Distinguished Service Order), MM (Military Medal) and general service medals. Matthew Riordan made an application for £3,000 compensation under the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee. No record of an award.
