Subject Information File relates to James O'Riordan’s unsuccessful application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of his son William O'Riordan who was shot and killed by British forces at Lackelly, County Limerick on 2 May 1921. Application rejected as applicant found not to be dependent on deceased. Includes unsuccessful application from Bridget Riordan, mother of deceased, for an award. Also includes unsuccessful application from Sister Margaret O'Riordan, sister of deceased, for an award. Noted in letter dated 30 June 1924 that the Active Service Unit (Flying Column) was at rest when they were surprised by the Green Howard's Regiment 'Alexendra Princess of Wales's Own (Yorkshire Regiment)' and Tans (RIC) from Galbally. Four members of the IRA were killed during the incident. Claimed in file that deceased was active in collecting for the anti-conscription campaign, Dail Loan and organising in the locality. James O'Riordan made an unsuccessful application for £2,000 compensation under the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee. O'Riordan made an unsuccessful application for £6,000 compensation under the Compensation (Ireland) Commission. Case found to be be with the scope. Applicant received £25 from the White Cross Association.
