Subject Information File relates to James McInerney's receipt of a military service pension in respect of his service with the IRA for part of the periods between 1 April 1920 and 30 June 1922 and with the National Forces for part of the periods between 1 July 1922 and 31 March 1923. Applicant also claimed unsuccessfully for other periods. The Board of Assessors found that applicant did render service in the National Army between 1 July 1922 and 31 March 1923. Noted in reference that applicant took part in Glenwood ambush; destruction of police barracks at Kilkishen (April 1920); raid on public house at Broadford. Subject states that a RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary) dispatch rider was captured by the IRA and shot in Kilkishen, County Clare sometime after the Glenwood ambush [21 January 1921]. To avoid the body being eaten by "dogs and wild birds", the applicant and others exhumed in the body, put it in a panel coffin and left it in Sixmilebridge Chapel during the Truce period. McInerney states that he took part in ambush at Cratloe and took part in the usual activities.
