Subject Information File relates to Michael Rouse's receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £112.10.00 (one hundred and twelve pounds and ten shillings sterling) in 1934 under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of his son IRA Company Quartermaster Michael Rouse Junior. File also relates to Bridget Rouse's receipt of a dependents' allowance between 1953 and her death in 1960 in respect of her son Michael Rouse. Michael Rouse died on 1 September 1922 at Richmond Hospital, Dublin during the Civil War. His death was due to the effects of a gun shot wound received by him during fighting against National Army forces at Kildorrey, County Cork on 18 August 1922. According to material on file Michael Rouse Junior had served with the Irish Volunteers and IRA from 1916 onwards and during the War of Independence and Civil War. William J. Ryan states that Rouse had been a member of the Irish Volunteers from 1914 and had mobilised at the time of the 1916 Easter Rising but had no actual service. File includes: original handwritten material submitted and signed by Michael Rouse Senior and Bridget Rouse in support of their respective applications; signed typed letters from James G. Skinner & Son, Solicitors written on behalf of Michael Rouse Senior and Bridget Rouse; undated unidentified newspaper cutting reporting the funeral and burial of Michael Rowse (sic) in Glasnevin, Cemetery and noting the provision of a guard of honour and firing party by members of Cumann na mBan - the remains of Michael Rouse Junior were later removed and reinterred at Kilcrumper (sic) in County Cork; representations on behalf of Michael Rouse Senior from P. S. Murphy TD and Senator William Quirke; signed handwritten report dated 30 May 1933 from Customs and Excise investigating officer, Mitchelstown, County Cork regarding the circumstances and means of the Rouse family and the degree of dependency of Michael Rouse Senior on his son at the time of the latter's death; material rrelating to the difficulties regarding proving Michael Rouse Senior's age and date of birth due to his having been born in the United States of America; material relating to the settlement and closure of Bridget Rouse's dependents' allowance following her death on 11 November 1960; and signed handwritten and typed statements regarding Michael Rouse Junior's service and death from Thomas O'Keeffe, Joseph O'Keeffe, Leo B. Skinner and William J. Ryan.
