Subject Information File relates to Mary Dwyer's receipt of a dependents' allowance under the Army Pensions Acts in 1958 in respect of her brother IRA Brigade Officer Commanding Denis Lacey. File also relates to an unsuccessful application from William Lacey, brother of Denis Lacey. Denis Lacey was killed in action against National Army forces at Ballydrehid, Cahir, County Tipperary on 18 February 1923 during the Civil War. See also DP11247 Patrick McDonough - fatally wounded in the same incident in which Denis Lacey was killed. According to material on file Denis Lacey had served with the Irish Volunteers and IRA from 1917 onwards and during the War of Independence and Civil War. It is also stated that he served as an IRA Battalion Quartermaster prior to his appointment as Brigade Officer Commanding 3 Brigade, 2 Southern Division, IRA.
