Subject Information File relates to Elizabeth Reynolds successful application on behalf of Joseph Reynolds's for a military service pension in respect of his service with the IRA for part of the periods between 1 April 1920 and 11 July 1921. Applicant also claimed unsuccessfully for other periods. Joseph Reynolds completed the initial application but died prior to his applications conclusion. Joseph Reynolds claims that he joined the Irish Volunteers in 1914. Elizabeth Reynolds claims that her husband was under arms on Easter Sunday, 1916 and that he marched with his company to Macroom. File (1P113) relates to Reynolds's application for a wound pension or gratuity under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of injuries sustained by him while serving with the IRA. Reynolds states that he received bomb wounds to both legs at Patrick Street, Cork on 23 November 1920. Claims that a bomb was thrown by members of the British forces. Awarded a wound pension for himself and also an allowance as a married man. Applicant received an allowance of £2 per week from the White Cross Association between May 1921 and 21 June 1923. Elizabeth Reynolds made application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of her husband. Application initially rejected as "the death of the deceased did not take place within four years of his having received the wounds". Application successful following subsequent appplications. File contains: handwritten notes of discussions held with Messrs Crofts, O'Sullivan, McGrath and [Molyneen]; Medical report on an ex-Irish Volunteer claiming disability in respect of service; receipted funeral expenses; certified copy of death certificate; reference from Patrick Harris; material relating to payment of balance of military service pension to Elizabeth Reynolds; reference to Elizabeth having posthumously received the Service (1917-1921) Medal; doctors certificates; material relating to payment of balance of Elizabeth Reynolds allowance to daughter; material relating to family partly closed.
