Subject Information File relates to Katherine Lalor's receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £112.10.00 (one hundred and twelve pounds and ten shillings sterling) in 1934 under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of her son IRA Section Commander Francis/Frank Lalor. File also relates to the awarding of a posthumous Service (1917-1921) Medal in respect of Francis Lalor to his brother George Lalor. Francis Lalor's was found dead with bullet wounds on 29 December 1922 at Milltown Golf Links during the Civil War. He had been captured at a house on Castlewood Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin by [National Forces] earlier that day. According to information on file Francis Lalor had served with the Irish Volunteers and IRA from 1917 onwards and during the War of Independence, Truce period and Civil War. It is stated that he was arrested and detained by the British authorities for about three weeks during 1920. His brother George Lalor also served with the IRA at this time. File includes: original handwritten material submitted and signed by Katherine Lalor and George Lalor in support of their respective applications; reference to receipt by Mathew Lalor, father of Francis and George, of a pension for service with the Dublin Metropolitan Police (DMP) and position as a Hall Porter at the Custom House up to 1925; signed handwritten report dated 6 and 9 May 1933 from Thomas Markham, Army Pensions Boards, regarding the circumstances and means of the Lalor family and the degree of dependency of Katherine Lalor on her son at the time of his death; handwritten notes/transcript of sworn statement made by Francis Casey on 20 November 1945 [before the Referee, Military Service Registration Board] regarding Francis Lalor's service in respect of the application for an award of a posthumous medal; and signed handwritten statements regarding Francis Lalor's service and death from Jospeh O'Connor (MSP34REF54).
