Subject Information File relates to Catherine Fleming’s application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of her son Richard Fleming who was shot and killed at Knockroe, Drangan, County Tipperary on 6 March 1921. Claimed in file that Fleming was attending a meeting which was surrounded by British forces. Fleming was shot while attempting to escape. Applicant claims that another son, Francis, died some short time later due to shock. Catherine Fleming made a claim for £4,000 under the Compensation (Ireland) Commission. Fleming also made an application for £2,000 compensation under the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee. Applicant received £25 from the White Cross Association. Applicant made a further unsuccessful application for an award under subsequent Army Pensions Acts. File contains: copy report from an Garda Síochána detailing Catherine Fleming’s circumstances and dependency on deceased at the time of his death. File DP23293 contains letter from subject’s sister Margaret Doran enquiring in 1953 about compensation for the death of her brother. She was informed that under the Act the sister of a deceased person “must be unmarried or a widow”.
