File relates to Jane Mangan’s receipt of a partial dependents’ gratuity of £112.10.00 (one hundred and twelve pounds and ten shillings sterling) in 1933 under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of her son IRA Private Patrick Mangan.
File also relates to the posthumous award of a Service (1917-1921) Medal [without Bar] in respect of Patrick Mangan to his brother Michael Mangan.
Patrick Mangan was executed by the National Army at The Curragh, County Kildare on 19 December 1922 during the Civil War. He had been sentenced to death by Military Court for being, with others (unnamed on file), in possession of rifles, ammunition, detonators and explosives on 12 December 1922. According to material on file Patrick Mangan had served with the IRA from 1920 onwards and during the War of Independence, Truce period and Civil War. File includes: original handwritten material submitted and signed by Jane Mangan and Michael in support of their applications; signed handwritten report dated 25 March 1933 from Thomas Markham regarding the circumstances and means of the Mangan family and the degree of dependency of James Mangan on her son at the time of his death; signed handwritten statements verifying Patrick Mangan’s IRA service from Michael O’Riain, Col J. Lillis, James Houlihan, Patrick Brennan, William Byrne, Thomas Harris and James Cregan.
