Subject Information The file relates to Andrew O'Donohue's receipt of a military service pension in respect of his service with the IRA in the service periods between 1 April 1919 and 31 March 1923. The applicant also unsuccessfully claimed for the service periods between 1 April 1916 and 31 March 1919 and the service period between 1 April 1923 and 30 September 1923. Four siblings of the O’Donohue family of Liskeen, Kilfenora, County Clare were active with the Republican movement: - Andrew O’Donohue (MSP34REF2799) who was Commanding-Officer of 5 Battalion, Mid-Clare, IRA. Also his wife Catherine O’Donohue (née O’Brien) (MSP34REF33255) - Mary Curtin (née O’Donohue) (MSP34REF33254). Also her husband Austin Curtin (MSP34REF23634) - Elizabeth Byrne (née O’Donohue) (MSP34REF56852) - Agnes Rynne (née O’Donohue) (MSP34REF56850). Also her husband Thomas Rynne (DP5136) During the War of Independence the applicant claims to have been involved in an ambush on members of the RIC at [Clohermore]; claims to have been involved in a raid of Ballyvaughan Coast Guard Station; claims to have been involved in an attack on Kilfenora RIC barracks (November 1919); claims to have been involved in an attack on the RIC at Lickeen (December 1919); claims to have sniped on Kilfenora barracks; claims to have been involved in an attack on members of the British Military at Connolly (16 [February] 1920); claims to have been involved in the capture of Ruan Barracks (18 October 1920); Monreal ambush, Ennistymon (18 December 1920); claims to have been involved in an attacks on Ennistymon [Bank] (March 1921) and Ennistymon barracks (May 1921); claims to have raided for mails; claims to have cut roads; claims to have carried dispatches; claims to have burned vacated barracks; claims to have been involved in ambushes at [Toonagh] (17 May 1921), Ennistymon (12 May 1921), [Inagh] (13 May 1921), Ballyvaughan (21 May 1921).
