Subject Information File relates to Bridget Carroll's receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £50 (fifty pounds sterling) in 1934 under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of her son IRA member Myles Carroll. Myles Carroll was killed in action against National Army forces during the Civil War at Sheen, Myshall, County Carlow on 5 December 1922. According to material on file Myles Carroll had served with the Irish Volunteers and IRA during the War of Independence and Civil War from 1918 onwards. File includes: original handwritten material signed and submitted by and on behalf of Bridget Carroll in support of her application; representations on behalf of Bridget Carroll from Francis Humphreys TD and the Minister for Education (T. Derrig TD); signed handwritten report from the Investigating Officer, Customs and Excise, Bagnelstown, County Carlow, regarding the circumstances and means of the Carroll family and the degree of dependency of Bridget Carroll on her son at the time of his death; undated unidentified newspaper cutting of death notices in respect of Tomas "Tommy" O'Connell, Officer Commanding Carlow Brigade IRA recording his date of death as 31 August 1924; signed handwritten statements regarding Myles Carroll's IRA service and death from Eugene Tracey, John Nolan and James Behan.
