The file relates to Timothy Riordan's receipt of a military service pension in respect of his service with the IRA in the service periods between 1 April 1920 and 30 September 1923. The applicant also unsuccessfully claimed for the service periods between 1 April 1917 and 31 March 1920. The file also relates to Timothy Riordan's successful application for a Special Allowance (DP).
During the War of Independence the applicant claims to have carried dispatches; claims to have been involved in blocking and cutting roads; claims to have done outpost for attack on Cappawhite RIC barracks, before being called into the attack properly; claims to have sniped [Annacarty] barracks (twice April 1921 and 11 July 1921); claims to have been involved in an engagement with RIC at Newtown (May 1921); claims to have been involved in an attack on Hollyford barracks (May 1920). During the Truce period the applicant claims to have been in barracks at Annacarty, Dundrum, Cahir and Tipperary. During the Civil War the applicant claims claims to have been involved in an attack on [Annacarty] National Army barracks; claims to have been involved in engagements at [Kilfeacle], [Grantstown], Grange, Carrick-on-Suir, Thomastown, [Mullinarat], Coolbrook and Ballingarry; sniped Ballyrobin twice weekly (1 February - 28 April 1923); arrested 28 April 1923, Limerick and Mountjoy prisons, claims forty day hunger strike (14 October - 22 November 1923), Tintown January 1924, released 4 February 1924.
