Subject Information File relates to Patrick Gorman’s application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of his son Edward Gorman who was shot and killed on 24 March 1923 at Adamstown, County Wexford. Noted in report of an Garda Síochána that Edward Gorman was a former member of the British Army. Copy report from Thomas Cousins, Intelligence Office, Area Wexford states that on 23 March 1923 Privates Keane, Horan and Sergeant O’Gorman left Palace East and proceeded to a public house without permission. Stated that the Officer Commanding, Palace East received a report that the three soldiers created a disturbance and Lieutenant Jones and a Private [John] Croke proceeded to investigate. Lieutenant Jones and Private Croke were surrounded by members of the IRA upon entering the public house and the latter was wounded while attempting to draw his revolver. Further reported that Lieutenant Jones, Private Horan and Sergeant O’Gorman were taken to Adamstown where their bodies were later discovered in an out-house near Adamstown.
