File relates to Margaret Lehane’s unsuccessful application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of her son Donal Lehane who was shot and killed at Kilorgan, County Kerry on 28 September 1922. See also 1D470A Patrick Lehane, brother of Donal.
Mother claims that deceased was in command of Kilorgan and Kilorgan Barracks during the battle of Kilorgan.
A letter from a Father Moran dated 5 November 1925 states that Donal Lehane was killed as part of the Lahinch reprisals following the Rineen ambush. Also mentions that "the father [was] dragged out and shot" and that their premises was burned as part of the Lahinch reprisals. Letter to Lieutenant Tully dated 3 February 1926 states that the RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary) took Daniel Lehane (father) from his home and fatally wounded him. The letter also states that Daniel Lehane, a Captain in the National Forces, was killed at Kilorgan, County Kerry on 27 September 1922.
Handwritten note on form AP14 by T Morris states that Margaret Lehane made an application for compensation under the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee in respect of her son Patrick and her husband and was awarded £1250 which was paid on 24 July 1924.
