Subject Information File relates to Teresa Lawlor’s application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of her son Joseph Lawlor who was accidentally killed in a vehicular accident on 8 September 1922 while travelling between Ballisodare and Sligo. Claimed in file that Lawlor joined the British Army in 1914 and demobilised in December [1921]. Lawlor joined the National Forces on 15 July 1922. Copy letter from Commandant W Donnelly to Commandant M Walsh dated 16 October 1922 in which he states that Lawlor had another brother [unnamed] who was a member of the IRA and on the run "and I believe that this fellow was in the attacking party on our troops, on the way home, from burying his brother (Joseph)." File contains: report from an Garda Síochána detailing Teresa Lawlor’s circumstances and dependency on deceased at the time of his death; material relating to payment of balance of allowance to her daughter; certified copy of death certificate for Teresa Lawlor; material relating to family partly closed.
