Subject Information File relates to Annie Murphy’s application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of her husband John Murphy who was killed on 20 September 1922 following a bomb explosion at Tralee, County Kerry. Reference made to payment of Dependant's Allowance from Army Funds. Reference also made to Murphy as having served in the British Army. File contains: report from an Garda Síochána detailing Annie Murphy’s circumstances and dependency on deceased at the time of his death; certified copy of death certificate for Ellen Murphy (daughter); certified copy of death certificate for Bridget Murphy (daughter); correspondence regarding overpayment of allowance in respect of her daughter Ellen; telegrams sent by Annie Murphy to the Army Finance Office requesting assistance; letter dated 10 January 1927 from an Garda Síochána to the Army Finance Officer stating that Annie Murphy had pleaded guilty to the charge [larceny] and that the District Justice adjourned the case for three months; letter dated 5 May 1927 states that the charge against Murphy was dismissed at Ennistymon District Court on 20 April 1927. Annie Murphy’s widows allowance was withdrawn from 30 April 1928 under Section 11 (4) of the Army Pensions Act, 1923. Payment of allowance for Mary Margaret, daughter, determined from 30 April 1928. Material is closed under section 8-(4)(c) of the National Archives Act, 1986.
