Subject Information File relates to Anne Purcell's receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £65 (sixty five pounds sterling) - increased from £40 on appeal - under the Army Pensions Act, 1923 in respect of her son National Army Private William Purcell. Private William Purcell was accidentally shot dead by another member of the National Army at Templemore, County Tipperary on 30 September 1922 during the Civil War. File includes: material submitted and signed by Anne Purcell in support of her application and appeal; reference to Anne Purcell's receipt of a dependents' allowance from Army funds prior to her receipt of her award under the Army Pensions Act; material relating to Garda Síochána investigation into the circumstances and means of the Purcell family and the degree of dependency of Anne Purcell on her son at the time of his death; signed typed standard report of 16 June 1924 from the office of the Defence Forces Adjutant General to the Ministry of Defence, Army Pensions Department regarding the date and circumstances of William Purcell's death and enclosing signed typed report of 10 June 1924 from the office of the Adjutant, Southern Command on the same subject.
