File relates to Alice Byrne / O'Byrne's receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £120 (one hundred and twenty pounds sterling) - increased from £30 on appeal - under the Army Pensions Act, 1923 in respect of her son National Army Captain Terence Byrne / O'Byrne / O'Beirne.
Captain Terence Byrne was shot dead in Castle Street, Nenagh, County Tipperary on 30 June 1922 during the Civil War. According to material on the file Terence Byrne had served with the British Army during the First World War and joined the IRA in 1919. He was arrested/captured by British forces in late 1920 and interned until [December] 1921. The file also refers to Terence Byrne having four brothers Joseph, Henry, Martin and Andrew also serving with the National Army as of 10 March 1923.

Hoolan, Tipperary No. 1 Brigade (National Army) to the Adjutant 3 Southern Division regarding the date and circumstances of Captain Terence Byrne's death; signed typed report of 26 January 1923 from the Office of the chief Pay Officer, Quartermaster General's Department to the Adjutant General regarding dependents allowances being paid as of that date to Mrs. A. Byrne in respect of her sons Joseph, Henry and Martin Byrne and stating that no allowance was being paid in respect of Terence Byrne at the date of writing; signed typed report of 12 January 1924 from Commandant E. F.
