Subject Information File relates to Mary McCabe's receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £75 (seventy five pounds sterling) - increased on appeal from £40 - under the Army Pensions Act, 1923 in respect of her brother National Army Sergeant 6256 Patrick McCabe. Mary McCabe also submitted an application in respect of her brother under the Army Pensions Act, 1953 but died before the completion of its processing. Sergeant Patrick McCabe was killed by machine gun fire during an attack on Carrickmacross National Army Barracks on 5 September 1922 during the Civil War. Patrick McCabe had served with the IRA prior to joining the National Army in August 1922.
