File relates to Josephine Lidwell's receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £150 (one hundred and fifty pounds sterling) under the Army Pensions Act, 1923 and a further extra statutory payment of £150 in respect of her son National Army Captain Frederick Hamilton Lidwell.
Captain Frederick Lidwell died from gunshot wound to the head accidentally received in Kilkenny Barracks, County Kilkenny on 22 December 1922 during the Civil War. Prior to joining the National Army Frederick Lidwell had served with the Irish Volunteers and IRA from [1918 to 1922] and acted as Registrar of the Dún Laoghaire District Court (Republican).
File includes: typed copy of transcript of proceedings and findings of enquiry into the death of Captain Lidwell held at Kilkenny Barracks - date of hearings not on file; typed statement of claim by Josephine Lidwell for compensation arising out of the death of her son dated 25 January 1923; handwritten statements and letters signed and submitted by Josephine Lidwell in support of her application and appeals; signed typed legal opinion from [M. A.
