Subject Information File relates to Jane Leavy's unsuccessful application for compensation from Army funds in respect of her son National Army Lieutenant Matthew Leavy. According to information on file application form was sent to Jane Leavy on 26 November 1923 to apply under the Army Pensions Act, 1923 in respect of her son but was never returned. Lieutenant Matthew Leavy died during the Civil War on the morning of 30 December 1922 at Mercer's Hospital, Dublin from injuries received when the Crossley tender he was travelling in was involved in an accident in the O'Connell Street / Westmoreland Street area of Dublin earlier that same morning. Lieutenant Leavy was an Intelligence Officer based at Wellington Barracks, Dublin at the time of his death. File includes: signed typed report from the Office of the Chief State Solicitor to the Minister for Home Affairs on the inquest on the body of Lieutenant [Matthew Leavy] held at Mercer's Hospital on 1 January 1923; signed typed letter of 3 January from the National Army Office of the Director of Intelligence to the Adjutant General enclosing a typed copy undated report from W. Fyans, Brigade I. O. regarding the circumstances surrounding the accident which led to the death of Lieutenant Matthew Leavy.
