Subject Information File relates to Cornelius O'Leary's receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £30 (thirty pounds sterling) in respect of his son National Army Private 56263 John O'Leary under the Army Pensions Act, 1932. File also relates to an incomplete application from Catherine Kelleher under the Army Pensions Act, 1953 in respect of her brother John O'Leary - Catherine Kelleher died before the processing of her claim was complete. Private John O'Leary was killed on 2 September 1922 at Gurteenroe near Macroom, County Cork during the Civil War. Prior to joining the National Army John O'Leary had served with the IRA during the War of Independence. According to material on file John O'Leary also had two unnamed brothers serving with the IRA during the War of Independence. File includes: signed standard report of 17 January 1924 from the Defence Forces Office of the Adjutant General to the Secretary, Army Pensions Department regarding the date and circumstances of Private John O'Leary's death; material relating to Garda Síochána investigation in to the circumstances and means of the O'Leary family and the degree of dependency of Cornelius O'Leary on his son at the time of the latter's death; signed handwritten statements verifying John O'Leary's pre-Truce IRA service from Daniel Corkery and F.
