Subject Information File relates to Mortimer Leahy's receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £20 (twenty pounds sterling) in respect of his son National Army Private Thomas Leahy. Private Thomas Leahy died in December 1922 having been accidentally shot by at Cahir Barracks, County Tipperary during the Civil War - date of death is given variously as 7 December and 18 December 1922 on file. File includes: signed report of 11 December 1923 from the Defence Forces Office of the Adjutant General to the Secretary, Army Pensions Department regarding the date and circumstances of Private Thomas Leahy's death; signed typed Garda Síochána report January 1924 regarding the circumstances and means of the Leahy family and the degree of dependency of Mortimer Leahy on his son at the time of the latter's death; and reference to Mortimer Leahy's receipt of as dependents' allowance from Army funds prior to his receipt of payment under the Army Pensions Act.
