File relates to Maria Josephine Downes receipt of a dependents' allowance on behalf of herself and her son under the Army Pensions Act, 1923 in respect of her husband National Army Lieutenant Michael Downes.
Lieutenant Michael Downes died from an accidental gunshot wound received on 24 September 1922 at Kilmihil, County Clare during the Civil War. His widow states that he had also served with 1 Battalion, Dublin Brigade IRA prior to joining the National Army.
