Subject Information File relates to Mary Harrington’s application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of her son William Harrington who was killed on 8 December 1922 in Tralee, County Kerry. Noted in file that Mary Harrington received £300 from Army Funds in 1924. The Army Pensions Board recommended in 1935 that she be paid a gratuity of £112.10.0 Joseph Sugrue states that Harrington joined the Irish Volunteers in 1918 and that he was attached to D Company at the time of his death. Sugrue claims that Harrington was in the Rink, Tralee collecting funds for IRA prisoners when the building was raided by National Forces and Harrington was shot by Lieutenant Parsons. Report of enquiry claims that funds were been raised for the poor of the district. No disciplinary action was taken against Parsons following the incident. File contains: Military Service Registration Board references from Joseph Sugrue, Humphrey Murphy and E O'Reilly; summary report of enquiry into the death of Harrington (badly torn); certified copy of death certificate; certified copy of birth certificate for Mary Harrington nee McAuliffe; material concerning annual review of means and allowance awarded; correspondence regarding over-payment of £238.14.6 by the Department of Finance.
