Subject Information File relates to John Hayes' receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £40 (forty pounds sterling) under the Army Pensions Act, 1923 in respect of his son National Army Private Matthew Hayes. Private Matthew Hayes died on 18 September 1922 from a gunshot wound received at Dromard, County Tipperary during the Civil War. File includes: signed standard report of 21 January 1924 from the Defence Forces Office of the Adjutant General to the Secretary, Army Pensions Department regarding the date and circumstances of Private Matthew Hayes' death; and material relating to Garda Síochána investigations into the circumstances and means of the Hayes' family and the degree of dependency of John Hayes on his son at the time of the latter's death.
