Subject Information File relates to Richard Gill's receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £50 (fifty pounds sterling) in respect of his son National Army Lieutenant William Joseph Gill. Lieutenant William Joseph Gill was killed at Glenamoy, County Mayo on 16 September 1922 in an engagement with Irregulars (anti-Treaty IRA) during the Civil War. According to evidence on this file and also on file 2D238 Thomas Henry Howley, William Gill was one of possibly up to six member of the National Army killed during this engagement. William Gill joined the National Army on 27 February 1922 having previously served with the IRA.
