File relates to Daniel Cooper's receipt of a partial dependents' gratuity of £50 (fifty pounds sterling) under the Army Pensions Act, 1923 in respect of his son National Army Lieutenant Clement Cooper. File also relates to Daniel Cooper's unsuccessful appeals against this award and also to an unsuccessful application by Ellen Breen under the Army Pensions Act, 1953 in respect of her brother Clement Cooper.
Lieutenant Clement Cooper was killed in action at Araghmoon, Aughatubrid near Caherciveen, County Kerry on 4 September 1922 during the Civil War. Clement Cooper had also served with the IRA during the War of Independence.
File includes: signed typed standard report of 13 March 1924 from Defence Forces Adjutant General, Lieutenant General Gearóid O'Suilleavain to Ministry of Defence, Army Pensions Department regarding the date and circumstances of Lieutenant Clement Cooper's death and enclosing copy typed report of 10 March 1924 from the Office of the Adjutant, Kerry Command to the Adjutant General regarding Lieutenant Cooper's death; material relating to Garda Síochána investigations into the circumstances and means of the Cooper family and the degree of dependency of Daniel Cooper on his son at the time of the latter's death; typed copy of letter of 22 July 1924 from J. M.
