Subject Information File relates to Bridget Moloney’s application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of her son Martin Moloney who was wounded in Limerick in July 1922 and died in September 1922. Bridget Moloney was awarded a dependent’s allowance between March 1922 and March 1924 from Army Funds. Report states that Moloney was a member of the Cruise Hotel garrison in Limerick and was proceeding to William Street Barracks on 20 July 1922 when he was shot by a sniper. Letter from the Department to Reverend J Glynn "requesting suggestions as to how the money could be paid with the most beneficial results" given "a lump sum...would not be in the best interests of claimant and her family". Reverend J Glynn letter dated (12 December 1924) states that to award applicant a "lump sum would be altogether undoing her" and that she was not dependent on her son. The proposed award of £50 was withdrawn. Report from an Garda Síochána states that Bridget Moloney's husband, Martin Moloney, was drowned in the sinking of the SS Laurentic and that another son, Michael Moloney (18), was killed during the First World War.
