Subject Information File relates to Annie Bergin’s receipt of payments under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of her son National Army Private Joachim (Joseph) Bergin. Private Joseph Bergin was killed on 16 August 1922 at Woodrooff (Woodroofe), County Tipperary in an [IRA] ambush during the Civil War. File includes: typed copy and original reports of 19 January 1924 and 30 January 1924 from Defence Forces Captain Seán Cooney, Acting O/C, 25th Infantry Battalion, Waterford and Defence Forces Adjutant General Lieutenant General Gearóid O’ Suilleavain regarding the date and circumstances of Private Joseph Bergin’s death; typed signed report of 1 March 1924 from the Garda Síochána Chief Superintendent for Kilkenny regarding the circumstances and means of the Bergin family and the degree of dependency of Annie Bergin on her son Joseph at the time of his death; and material relating and referring to Joseph Bergin’s father and his ten (10) surviving brothers and sisters including Michael Bergin who joined the National Army in September 1922 according to Annie Bergin; Military Service Registration Board references from James Doyle, Michael Fogarty; John Corcoran and Patrick Doyle
