Subject Information File relates to William Keating's receipt of a military service pension in respect of his service with the IRA for part of the periods between 1 April 1920 and 30 September 1923. Applicant also claimed unsuccessfully for other periods. Keating claims that he joined Seán Hogan's Active Service Unit (Flying Column) in [December 1920]. He further claims that he took part in an attack on Ballyporeen Barracks in February 1921. Keating states that he was involved in an attack on patrol in Ballypoeen, Clogheen ambush and the [Tubird] engagement (Kilkenny). Mentions that two members of the column were killed during that attack. During the Truce period Keating claims that he attended training camps in Galtee Castle and occupied Cahir Barracks. During the Civil War Keating says that he was involved in engagements at [Woodrofe], Cahir, Casheen's Cross, Kilfeacle, Knockalisheen, Ballymacarbery, Newcastle, Grange Crossing and Hollyford. Mentions that he took part in a train ambush between Cahir and Clonmel. States that he was arrested in October 1923 and interned until April 1924.
