File relates to Jeremiah Guest's receipt of a military service pension in respect of his service with the IRA for part of the periods between 1 April 1920 and 31 March 1923. Applicant also claimed unsuccessfully for other periods.
Guest states that in 1918 he took part in the usual activities and that he assisted in making tin can bombs. Mentions that he was involved in raid at Woodwards, Copley Street for military bicycles. Claims that he was on out post duty during the destruction of Income Tax Office and that he blocked roads for the attack on Blarney Barracks. Mentions that 14 revolvers were captured at a railway cloakroom. States that he was one of an armed party that burned Dobbin's house. In the seventh period Guest claims that he was among those who fired on members of the British forces, two of which were killed. States that he was involved in the raid on the Upnor. He further states that he was garrisoned in Collins Barracks and later Buttevant Barracks. During the Civil War Guest claims that he was in Kilmallock, [Dedamore], Limerick City and Thomastown before returning to Cork where he sniped at the barracks.
