Subject Information File relates to Laurence McNamee's receipt of a military service pension in respect of his service with the IRA for part of the periods between 1 April 1919 and 11 July 1921. Applicant also claimed unsuccessfully for other periods. McNamee states that he joined the Irish Volunteers in 1917 and carried dispatches and undertook intelligence work. In the period 1 April 1918 and 31 March 1919 McNamee says that he spent three months in Limerick Prison. During the War of Independence McNamee claims that he took part in raids for arms, disarmed a member of the RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary) at Rathkeale. States that he was the driver during the attack by the Active Service Unit (Flying Column) on Kilmallock. He further states that he acted as driver and took part in an ambush on Loughill. Mentions that in September 1920 he took part in the attack on Abbeyfeale. In February 1921 McNamee claims that he took part in an ambush on a train at Borrigone. Says that he travelled to East Clare for a later aborted ambush at Sixmilebridge. Mentions that he collected arms and commandeering cars for the Column. In May [1921] McNamee claims that he under went signalling training. During the Truce period (12 July 1921 - 30 June 1922) McNamee says that he spent three weeks in training camp.
