Subject Information |
File relates to Brigid C.Moran's application for a Special Allowance (dependant) in respect of her deceased brother, Seán Moran.
Queries were led to ascertain the particulars of his service with the Forces with Eugene Cavanagh, Seamus Doyle, Mícheál Ó Ciardubháin (Michael Kirwan), Patrick Murray.
Sean Moran lived in Enniscorthy with his family and married in 1919. He was a printer in the local paper office. Following his marriage, he moved to Drogheda where he worked as a printer in Cahills'. His father had a tailoring business. The file mentions a daughter, Maura.
It is mentioned that the subject, Sean Moran, was connected to Fianna Éireann before joining the Irish Volunteers. According to Patrick Murray (Battalion O/C IRA), Sean Moran was Section Leader, active in the Drogheda area and that he was Company Officer in Wexford and Louth Brigades.
Sean Moran was shot dead by British forces in February 1921.
Compensations were made to Brigid Moran, his widow, William Moran (father) and Maura Moran (daughter) under the Criminal Injuries (Ireland) Act, 1919.
