Subject Information File relates to Patrick S Maguire’s unsuccessful application for a military service pension under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934. An application form appears to have been issued in 1954 but not returned. A second application in 1956 was unsuccessful as the statutory time limit for accepting new applications had expired on 18 March 1955 although it appears that this was second application. He was told that further communication regarding application for a medal would be forwarded to him but this is not held on file. Subject states that he spent “months” in the Kimmage Garrison, Dublin helping to manufacture ammunition with Seamus Robinson (MSP34REF147) and others in the run up to the 1916 Easter Rising. During Easter Week 1916, the applicant states that he helped to “take” the General Post Office (GPO) on Easter Monday and served for the duration of the week. He says that he was taken prisoner by British forces and interned in Stafford Jail, England; Wormwood Scrubs, England and Frongoch camp, Wales (prisoner number 1722).
