Subject Information File relates to unsuccessful Dependant's Allowance claim by Bernard Shinnick in respect of his brother Daniel Shinnick. Claim was disallowed under the Army Pensions Act 1932 as applicant was not listed as a dependent on Paragraph 1(b) in the application form. It is stated that Daniel Shinnick joined the Irish Volunteers in 1917 and served as Battalion Adjutant and Brigade Adjutant of 2 Cork Brigade IRA. Taking the anti-Treaty side in the Civil War (June 1922 – May 1923), it is claimed that Daniel Shinnick was fatally wounded in an engagement with National Army troops at Glennacurrane, Mitchelstown, County Cork on 4 September 1922. He served under the command of Tom Barry (MSP34REF57456), George Power (MSP34REF478) and William O’Regan.
