Scope and Content File contains the details of the activities of 3 Cavan Brigade from 1915 until October 1922 (some activities are undated). The companies contained in the file are; Aghalacken Company; Butlersbridge Company; Carrickallen (C) Company (very few details of activities undertaken); Castletara Company; Knockbride West Company; Laragh Company; Lower Lavey Company and, 3 Cavan Brigade. Also a list of activities which cannot be attributed to any particular company. Details for Knockbride West Company contains the names of participants for some of the activities. Contains details extracted from pages 68-69 and 81-82 of 3 Meath Brigade records submitted by Frank Connell and Michael McGovern (4 Battalion, 3 Meath Brigade) Contains the names and addresses of 17 participants and a further 5 on outpost duty for an attack at Bailieborough, County Cavan on 10 July 1921. When this attack occurred it was in the area of the first Eastern Division. See A59 map 2. File contains correspondence regarding the delay in submission of activity reports from Cootehill (see A56_2) and Crosserlough (see A56_2) battalions. No details were received from these battalions. Correspondence regarding the pension process and perceived delays in same; two page handwritten letter from Matthew J Smith, Drumkeen Cottage, Cavan concerning losses he sustained to his farm and vehicle as a result of the War of Independence.
