1 South Mayo Brigade, 2 Western Division was formed after the Truce (11 July 1921) and prior to the outbreak of the Civil War (28 June 1922). Prior to that units within this brigade belonged to the Mayo South and Mayo East brigades.
File includes: original signed handwritten and typed and copy typed correspondence, involving officials of the Office of the Referee, Military Service Pensions Act, 1934 and representatives of 1 South Mayo Brigade, 2 Western Division IRA Committee, regarding the submission, to the Office of the Referee, of records of activities carried out by that Brigade; handwritten and typed material, with handwritten corrections, annotations and markings, listing activities carried out by the following companies and battalions of South Mayo Brigade between September 1919 and [11 July] 1921 - with names and addresses of participants included: 1 (Cross) Battalion; 2 (Ballinrobe) Battalion; 3 (Claremorris) Battalion; 4 Battalion; 5 (Ballyhaunis) Battalion; 7 (Kilmaine) Battalion; Bekan Company, 3 Battalion; and Aghamore Company, 5 Battalion.
