File includes: original signed and unsigned, typed, hand written, and [copy] typed material relating to activities carried out between 1914 and 1923 by the following companies and/or battalions of West Clare Brigade - with names or names and addresses of participants generally included: B (Kiladysert) Company, 1 Battalion; 1 Battalion; 2 Battalion; A (Cooraclare), B (Moanmore) and C (Cree) companies, 3 Battalion; 3 Battalion; A (Doolough) and B (Coor) companies, 4 Battalion; 4 Battalion; A (Carrigaholt), B (Kilkee), C (Kilferagh), D (Doonaha & Querin), E (Moveen), F (Cross), G (Lisdeen) and H (Kilbaha) companies, 5 Battalion; Kilkee Fianna Éireann and West Clare Brigade Active Service Unit (ASU); details regarding casualties and members arrested, captured, imprisoned and interned. File also includes: sketch map on tracing paper 49 x 38cm of the town and environs of Kilkee depicting two incidents as follows: attack on ‘Black and Tan’ (RIC) at Lower O’Curry Street in February 1921 in which the positions of the attackers and armed scouts are shown, with their names supplied; and attack on British positions in the town in May 1921 showing positions of IRA and British forces. File further includes: original signed handwritten and typed and copy typed correspondence and related material involving officials of the Office of the Referee, Military Service Pensions Act, 1934 and members of West Clare Brigade IRA Committee regarding the gathering, compilation and submission of the material on file and particular named individuals service pension applicants (16 December 1937 - 30 April 1941); typed list with handwritten additions of 142 names and addresses of members of West Clare Brigade ASU (Column) during 1922 and 1923 - list is divided by battalion and also notes whether individuals were, killed, wounded, arrested or captured - dates of arrest or capture and occasionally dates of release are shown.
