Title 2 Mid Tipperary Brigade, 2 Southern Division
Scope and Content File relates to the submission of documentation regarding the activities of Mid-Tipperary Brigade to the Referee under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934 by the 2 Tipperary Brigade Committee (Mid-Tipperary). In June 1935 both James Leahy (ex-Brigadier 2 Tipperary Brigade) and James Stapleton gathered very general documentation regarding the activities of the brigade from 1917 and 1921. Leahy‘s handwritten listing also covers Civil War engagements dated 1922-1923. Also contains 6 typed pages of general activities listed chronologically from 18 January 1920 to 11 July 1921. In a letter dated 22 August 1941, James Leahy presents the records of the 2 Tipperary Brigade and also explains the difficulty of collating them due to the lapse of time and the fact that most of the men and officers were now scattered. For this reason there are no records pertaining to the activities of the Active Service Unit. Enclosed is a document showing the names of men “whom the Brigade Committee know have special and outstanding services” (1 Battalion: 26 names; 2 Battalion: 22 names; 3 Battalion: 16 names; added 2 more names (Brigade staff): A Donnelly, Brigade Engineer and M Corbett, Brigade Transport).
