See file MSP34REF4067 for O'Neill's application for a service pension under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934. See file MSP34REF27833 for the pension application from Daniel O'Neill under the same legislation. Files contains copy of letter from O’Neill to Officer Commanding 2 Offaly Brigade (7 September 1923) which was opened by the postal authorities and forwarded to the Director of Intelligence; copies of reports to the Director of Intelligence detailing the activities of Denis O’Neill; copy report dated 9 April 1924 detailing a physical description of O’Neill and his whereabouts; report from H Shorte, Liverpool to the Director of Intelligence stating that O’Neill was in Liverpool and he believed was trying to travel to America (5 June 1924); copy reports from numbers 1,6 and 145 [confidential source identified by number] detailing the movements of O’Neill in Liverpool, Cork, Limerick and Tipperary, reports also report on the movement of P Lacken, Seán Carroll, Pat Hughes and J Leahy; correspondence regarding Denis O’Neill’s service with the RIC and date of resignation from same; reference to Denis O’Neill’s marriage to a Miss Rohan, Nenagh, County Tipperary. File also makes reference to Daniel O’Neill, brother, who in report dated 30 September 1925, is stated to have taken part in robbery of post offices and the murder of several Protestants in West Cork in May 1922. Daniel O’Neill married a Miss Woods, Enniskeane, County Cork.
