Scope and Content File contains a directive from the Department of the Taoiseach (S.9240 dated 19 Bealtine (May) 1942 1p), and reports, letters, minutes and correspondence generated as a consequence, in draft and approved form leading to a Memorandum for the Government of a Joint Report from the Department of Defence, in consultation with the Department of Finance, on the question of the possibility of making some additional provision for 1916 men in receipt of Army or military service pensions and who are incapable of work owing to age or infirmity and are in need. File includes copy Memorandum for the Government from the Department of the Taoiseach on the question of preference in employment for 1916 Veterans, for consideration at the meeting of the Government on Tuesday, 31 March 1942 ( 6pp dated 25 March 1942), Dail Questions and answers on the subject (2pp) and an unsigned, undated memo outlining briefly the veterans organisations: Cumann Sean-Oglach, 1916 and Cumann Oglaigh naCasga (Associated Easter Week Men); their respective Secretaries are named and opposing political stance prior to about June 1941 given (1p). Includes also a list of 51 Unemployed 1916 men as of the 31 October 1941 set out in columns by name, age, postal address, occupation, dependants, amount of military service pension and remarks-including details of other pensions such as wound or blind or allowances, home assistance, length of time out of work, whether member of 26th Rifle Battalion etc in each case-submitted by Cumann Sean-Oglach, 1916. (2pp). The decision of the Government on the matter is conveyed in S.9240 dated 15 Deire Fomhair (October) 1942. 1p
