Subject Information File relates to Bridget Moran’s application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of her son Michael Moran who died on 23 January 1922 at Dooagh, County Mayo. Cause of death certified as cardiac failure. Application initially unsuccessful but was successful under subsequent Army Pensions Acts. Stated that Moran was arrested in Achill on 6 June 1921 and later sentenced to ten years imprisonment. It is claimed that while imprisoned in Galway he was beaten by members of the British forces. Noted in letter dated 4 March 1924 from M Costello that Moran and a cousin were arrested following the wounding of a man named Corrigan over an agrarian dispute. Moran was released on 19 January 1922 from Dartmoor Prison. M Kilroy in his supporting reference states that Moran was an "active and prominent officer in Liverpool until arrested". Eamon O'Connor in his supporting reference states that Moran was involved in obtaining explosives for the IRA in Lancashire and that he took part in arson attacks in Liverpool. Reference made to Bridget Moran having made an unsuccessful application for £5,000 compensation under the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee. Applicant received £30 from the White Cross Association.
