Subject Information File relates to Mary McEvilly’s application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of her son James McEvilly who was killed in an engagement with British forces at Kilmeena, Westport, County Mayo on 19 May 1921. Noted in file that deceased joined the Boy Scouts in 1915 and that he was mobilised for the 1916 Easter Rising. Also noted that he was arrested in 1918 and interned in Belfast Jail. Mary McEvilly made an application for £4,000 compensation under the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee. Applicant received £43 from the White Cross Association. Reference made to another two sons as having being interned. File contains: report from an Garda Síochána detailing Mary McEvilly’s circumstances and dependency on deceased at the time of his death; certified copy of death certificate.
