Subject Information File relates to Bridget Ryan's successsful pension application for her service with Cumann na mBan for parts and entire periods between 1 April 1920 and 11 July 1921. She was awarded 1 and 1/3 years of service for pension purposes in 1942. Following the applicant's appeal for rank and pension award, the decision was reviewed and she was awarded 1 and 23/36 years of service. CW Ryan was appointed nurse in Castlebar Union in 1897. She married the Master in 1907 and had to leave her post. Applicant states she joined Cumann na mBan in 1916. She was first involved in routine branch activities. In August 1920 with the help of her husband, she prepared a disused portion of the Fever Hospital for the use as a hospital for the IRA. She attended P Kenny for 3 weeks there. She later nursed a man called Reynolds for a week as well as John Chambers whom she later brought to the Mater Hospital, Dublin. Also nursed James Swift whose toes had been blown off. She stored arms and ammunition in 1920-1921.
