Subject Information File relates to Annie Susan Kelly's receipt of a military service pension in respect of her service with Cumann na mBan for parts and entire periods between 1 April 1920 to 31 March 1923. Applicant states she joined Cumann na mBan at its inception in 1917 but also asserts she was helping the Volunteers from 1915. She claims that she was President of the Glenmask Branch (40 to 50 members) on the first critical date (11 July 1921) and that the branch Captain was Miss Moran. Between April 1920 and July 1921, she states that the Volunteers stayed at the Moran's house and that she helped storing some captured rifles and bandoliers following an ambush at Port Royal. She did guard duty and watch for men on the run who stayed at her house. She was sent to Tourmakeady (Hewetts Hotel) to get information on raids. She helped with first aid (cared for Seamus Bourke) following the Tourmakeady ambush. She states she also carried dispatches on a number of occasions. She states that during the Civil War, she kept men on the run in her house, and carried a few dispatches. She claims that she was active until the cease fire. File contains general correspondence, material relating to the payment of the pension to the applicant; original application form dated 2 October 1935; reference letters supporting applicant's claim from P.Moran, E.Moane, Seamus de Burca, J.A.Madden, W.Rabbitte, Thomas Maguire; handwritten statement of activities (1915 to 1923) written by applicant (8pp); life certificate dated February 1942; typed sworn statement made by applicant before Advisory Committee dated 31 January 1939. Material relating to the Executor closed. File DP18952 contains material and correspondence relating to subject’s unsuccessful application for a Special Allowance. Annie Susan Kelly was informed that her yearly means exceeded the appropriate annual sum which in her case was £97 (1950) and £130 (1954). File includes application form; doctor’ certificates and signed handwritten reports from Social Welfare investigating officers regarding applicant’s financial circumstances (1950-54). Noted on file that subject married on 19 January 1927.
