O’Malley states she was a member of Srah Branch (also given as Tourmakeady), 2 Battalion, South Mayo Brigade, Cumann na mBan from 1918 up to the end of the Civil War in 1923. During the War of Independence (January 1919 – July 1921) she states she partook in the usual activities attending lectures and classes, organising fundraising events and carrying dispatches. She also claims to have procured information for the South Mayo Active Service Unit (Flying Column) regarding the movement of British Forces before the Tourmakeady Ambush (3 May 1921). During the Truce period she states she continued to carry dispatches and also arms and ammunition. During the Civil War (June 1922 – May 1923) O’Malley states she did dispatch work and aided men after Newport Ambush (1923) providing food and supplies.
